Single Use Alternatives was founded by Adrian and Neil; two brothers who are passionate about enjoying the outdoors and caring for the environment. Concerned about the impact single use plastics are having upon the environment, we decided to offer a range of cost effective high quality, alternative products.

Thanks to worldwide publicity we’re increasingly aware of the problems caused by plastic pollution in the environment. Plastic can take up to 400 years to fully degrade and because the majority of the plastic that’s ever been manufactured still exists in some form, something has to be done.
We understand that many catering and takeaway businesses are looking for ways to protect the environment by reducing their use of single use, disposable plastic items. However, although eco-friendly alternatives are available, they tend to be more expensive and difficult to buy in realistic quantities. There’s one thing our eco friendly boxes and food packaging products have in common: sustainability. All of our products are either biodegradable or compostable and made from plants not plastic. Choosing sustainable products helps to ‘close the loop’ by taking carbon out of the atmosphere. Fewer greenhouse gasses are created as less energy is used during their manufacture. Once composted or biodegraded, our products are returned to the earth to enrich the soil, ultimately keeping fossil fuels in the ground. This an important objective if we are to achieve net zero and mitigate climate change.
How to recycle our takeaway boxes
Our products are biodegradable or compostable. Compostable products should be disposed of by your local council with other composting waste. Alternatively, they can be composted at home, however the process will take longer as it depends on the method you use and environmental conditions. Biodegradable products must be recycled in special industrial composters, but this isn’t available in all areas at present so please check the situation where you live first. It’s important to note that although some of our products might look and feel very similar to plastic, they mustn’t be disposed of with other plastic recycling waste.
