Who we are
Single Use Alternatives was founded by Adrian and Neil; two brothers who are passionate about enjoying the outdoors and caring for the environment. Concerned about the impact single use plastics are having upon the environment, we decided to offer a range of cost effective high quality, alternative products.

Eco friendly meat trays with a difference
Thanks to increasing worldwide publicity, more and more of us are aware of the problems caused by plastic pollution in the environment. Since plastic was first commercially manufactured, over 8 billion tons have been produced. A staggering 6.3 billion tons is waste which either goes into landfill, or ends up as plastic pollution. If we stay on this path, 12 billion tons of plastic waste will have accumulated by 2050.
Although something has to be done, we understand that for many catering or events businesses, cafes, coffee shops and takeaways, it’s important to have a readily-available supply of disposable items. However, whilst there are plastic-free alternatives out there, they have historically been more expensive and difficult to source in realistic quantities.
It is our aim to offer something different and our product range has been carefully chosen to offer practical, cost-effective, plastic-free alternatives. Our product range
Our products are made from plants not plastic, using renewable materials such as corn starch and PLA. Equally as robust and practical as their plastic counterparts, switching to our products offers an effective way to ‘close the loop.’ This means that because our products are made from renewable sources, less carbon is used during their manufacture. Then, when they are returned to the earth through composting, carbon is stored in the soil, rather than being released back into the environment. Not only is this a big win for you, it’s also a big win for the planet.
Although many of our products look and feel very similar to plastic, they mustn’t be disposed of with other plastic recycling. Instead, our products are either compostable or biodegradable. Compostable items are suitable for collection by your local council with compostable food waste. Home composting is also suitable; however the process will take longer as it depends on environmental conditions and the method you use.
Biodegradable items are suitable for collection in areas which have specialist composting facilities. However, because this type of facility isn’t yet available in all areas, please check the situation where you live first.
