From biodegradable produce and meat trays, through to sandwich boxes, deli pots and coffee cups, at Single Use Alternatives we supply a huge range of eco-friendly food packaging products. The products we sell are designed for use by takeaway, catering and events businesses, or for entertaining at home. Who we are

Single Use Alternatives was founded by Adrian and Neil; two brothers who are passionate about enjoying the outdoors and caring for the environment. Concerned about the impact single use plastics are having upon the environment, we decided to offer a range of cost effective high quality, alternative products.

Biodegradable Meat Trays from Single Use Alternatives

Over the past few years the problems caused by plastic pollution in the environment have received worldwide attention, thanks to global publicity and programmes such as the BBC’s Blue Planet. Plastic can take up to 400 years to fully degrade and because over 6 billion tons of plastic waste is now either in landfill or polluting the planet, something has to be done.

Although we know we need to make changes, finding cost-effective, practical alternatives can be time-consuming and expensive. We believe that it’s these problems which deter businesses and individuals from choosing plastic-free products. We also understand that many catering and hospitality businesses rely upon a cheap and convenient source of disposable, single-use plastic items such as cups, cutlery and food trays.

At Single Use Alternatives it is our aim to make it as easy as possible for you to make the switch. Our products are 100% plastic free, biodegradable or compostable, cost-effective and available to buy in realistic quantities: whether you need 100 biodegradable meat trays or 1000s. In addition, our website is fully secure and mobile first, with convenient delivery (including next day delivery if required) and discounts available on bulk orders.

Our product range

Our products include a huge range of items designed to package and serve takeaway food or drinks. Ideal for use by catering and events businesses, cafes, farmers markets’, takeaways and coffee shops, our range includes everything from produce and meat trays, through to deli pots, takeaway containers, coffee cups and cutlery. The products we sell are made from plants, not plastic, and are available at realistic prices for delivery direct to your door.

You’ll find that the products we sell are just as durable and practical as their plastic counterparts. Many are microwavable or ovenable and are available in a wide range of sizes to suit all uses and requirements. In addition, we also supply a selection of practical accessories including compostable food bags, wraps, waste bags, gloves, gift bags, gloves and much more.

How our products should be recycled

Choosing our plastic free products is a great way to ‘close the loop’. Because the products we sell are made from plants and not plastic, less carbon is used in their manufacture and once they have been returned to the earth through composting, carbon is stored in the soil. As such, although making the switch to plastic-free products might seem like a small step to take, it will make a big difference to the planet.

Our products are either biodegradable or compostable. Compostable items should be either disposed of by your local council in an industrial composting facility, or in your garden compost bin. The industrial composting process takes up to 90 days, however the process will take longer in a home composting bin as it depends on environmental conditions and the method you use.

Biodegradable items must be recycled in a special industrial composting facility. At present, not all local councils have this type of composting facility, so please check the situation in your area first.
