Who we are
Single Use Alternatives was founded by Adrian and Neil; two brothers who are passionate about enjoying the outdoors and caring for the environment. Concerned about the impact single use plastics are having upon the environment, we decided to offer a range of cost effective high quality, alternative products.

Our aim at Single Use Alternatives is to provide your business with environmentally friendly, cost effective alternatives to single use plastics. We specialise in supplying smaller businesses with smaller amounts of compostable products (to save on storage space) at prices that can becomparable with their environmentally un-friendly plastic alternatives.
Compostable portion pots - with the look and feel of ordinary plastic
As you browse through our website, you’ll see that we label our products accordingly, whether they are compostable, or biodegradable, and whilst they can look like other types of plastic, they’re completely made from PLA (polylactic acid), which is a renewable, sustainable alternative to oil based plastics.
Other items in our portion pot range are made from rapidly renewable sugarcane pulp, which is a by-product of the sugar refining industry, and which is fully certified as home compostable. These portion pots are seriously better for the planet than plastic, and can be put in your food waste collection where this is offered.
The clear plastic portion pots from biopac are completely plastic free, and are made from PLA, the renewable alternative to oil based plastic we mentioned earlier. Available in a range of sizes from 30ml, 60ml, 90ml up to 140ml, these compostable portion pots are perfect for everything from ketchup to houmous, and with tight fitting lids, they’ll keep any liquid products safely contained.
Compostable, biodegradable, disposable
At present there are huge variations in local recycling facilities throughout the UK. This makes it harder for businesses and individuals to dispose of single use items in a sustainable way. At Single Use Alternatives we are working with manufacturers, suppliers and local councils to try to address this problem by ‘closing the loop’.
Compostable products can either be disposed of at home in your compost bin, or by your local council with other food waste. All materials are, in theory, biodegradable but when disposed of in landfill, plastic can take up to 1000 years to fully degrade. The biodegradable products we sell are designed to degrade in significantly less time than this, providing they are disposed of correctly. These items need special industrial scale composters if they are to fully biodegrade as quickly as possible. At present not all local authorities are able to do this, so it’s important to check the situation where you live first.
