Who we are
Single Use Alternatives was founded by Adrian and Neil; two brothers who are passionate about enjoying the outdoors and caring for the environment. Concerned about the impact single use plastics are having upon the environment, we decided to offer a range of cost effective high quality, alternative products.

Why Single Use Alternatives?
Since plastic was first manufactured commercially an estimated 8.3 billion tons has been produced. The majority of this plastic has either ended up in landfill or as plastic pollution. Because plastic can take over 400 years to degrade, most of the plastic that’s ever been produced still exists in some form and when you consider that a significant proportion of plastic is manufactured for just one single use, something has to change.
Thanks to increased awareness and programmes such as the BBC’s Blue Planet, we know that we need to find alternatives to single use plastics. However, although there are now alternatives available, these tend to be expensive and difficult to find. To compound the problem, the range of different types of new plastics can be confusing and not as ethical as they may seem. Last and by no means least, variations in the way different local authorities approach recycling simply adds to the confusion.
It is our aim to offer something different and although we know we won’t save the planet overnight, we want to make it easier for you to make practical, sustainable and affordable choices. You’ll find that we sell a wide range of food packaging products, ideal for use by food and catering businesses or at home. Our products can be comparable in price to single use plastics, whilst being easy to order in quantities that are right for you: whether that’s 100s or 1000s. We also offer a range of cost-effective UK delivery options, including next day delivery if required.
From biodegradable or compostable food containers such as ice cream pots and salad bowls, through to hot food containers, paper bags and wrap, our products are durable, practical and completely plastic free.
Not all plastics are equal - find out how our products should be recycled
Although some of our products might look as though they are made from plastic they are not and should not be recycled with other plastic recycling waste. Our products fall into two recycling categories: compostable or biodegradable. To make recycling as easy as possible, items are categorised and labelled so you’ll be able to choose ones which can be easily recycled in your area.
Compostable products can either be disposed of at home in your compost bin, or by your local council with other food waste. All materials are, in theory, biodegradable but when disposed of in landfill, plastic can take up to 1000 years to fully biodegrade. The biodegradable products we sell are designed to degrade in significantly less time than this, providing they are disposed of correctly. These items need special industrial scale composters if they are to fully biodegrade as quickly as possible. At present not all local authorities are able to do this, so it’s important to check the situation where you live first.
