Compostable and biodegradable packaging materials for food and drinks
At Single Use Alternatives we have the UK’s most comprehensive website, dedicated to sustainable alternatives to single use plastic catering disposables. With over 400 food packaging products made from plants not plastics, we offer a wide range of affordable ways to help your business reduce its carbon footprint, whilst also helping the environment.
Who we are
Single Use Alternatives was founded by Adrian and Neil; two brothers who are passionate about enjoying the outdoors and caring for the environment. Concerned about the impact single use plastics are having upon the environment, we decided to offer a range of cost effective high quality, alternative products.

Why make the switch to sustainable packaging?
We work with a wide range of catering and food businesses; from cafes and coffee shops, through to takeaways, outside catering and events. We know that businesses such as these rely upon a cheap and convenient supply of single use, plastic disposables such as cups, lids, plates and trays.
Unfortunately the majority of these single use plastic products end up in landfill or as plastic pollution in the environment. Plastic can take up to 400 years to fully degrade. When you consider that of the 8 billion tons that’s been produced, the vast majority is made for just one use before being thrown away, something has to be done.
We understand that choosing sustainable food packaging materials over plastic packaging might seem like a very small step to take. However, the more businesses who make this change, the bigger and better the end result.
A wide range of eco-friendly packaging has been available for some time, but unfortunately these alternatives are often more expensive and can be difficult to source in realistic quantities. At Single Use Alternatives it is our aim to offer something different, with a dedicated range of environmentally friendly food packaging items, made from plant based materials and designed to help businesses reduce plastic waste.
Dedicated compostable and biodegradable packaging materials for food
Our dedicated eco-friendly food packaging includes everything you need to sell and serve takeaway food and drinks. From hot and cold cups, lids and stirrers, through to takeaway cartons and pizza boxes, deli platters and pots, ice cream cartons and cutlery, our extensive range offers practical, affordable solutions.
Although all of our products are 100% plastic free, you’ll find that they are just as durable as their plastic counterparts. We’re happy to send free samples so you can try before you buy, whilst further discounts of up to 20% are available on wholesale orders.
We don’t set a minimum order value, so you’ll be able to order biodegradable packaging materials for food in quantities which are right for your business; whether you need 100 cups or 1000s. Our website is fully secure, user friendly and mobile first, with easy account management and re-ordering available.
Compostable or biodegradable?
Our products are made from either compostable or biodegradable materials. Compostable items are suitable for collection with compostables in local food waste, but please check the recycling system in your area first. Alternatively, some compostable items are suitable for home composting, however they will take longer to fully degrade, depending on environmental conditions and the method you use.
Biodegradable items require special industrial composting facilities if they are to fully degrade in a timely manner. This type of facility isn’t currently available in all areas of the UK, so we recommend you check the situation in your local area first.
